My stockings are being donated to a family that my daughter's Girl Scout Troop adopted.
In this tutorial, I'm using 2 different sets to show you how this is done. The first set will be a red and green stripe and green ornaments, the second set is red with trees and red with a design.
You will use a 1/4" seam allowance on all pieces, and it is included in the pattern.
First you will choose your fabrics and cut out your pieces. You will cut out 4 pieces of the stocking, 2 of the main fabric, 2 of the lining fabric. Do not cut on the fold. You will cut the loop on the fold.
Once you cut out all your pieces, you will have a pile like this:
For the loop
Fold in half lengthwise wrong sides together. Iron. Open, then fold the sides in to the first fold line. Iron. Then fold in half again, and iron. Pin this together and you will stitch down the sides 1/8".
(If you do the turn and topstitch method as seen on the red and green stripes, it is a tiny bit difficult to get the loop through itself.)
For the stocking
Pin the main pieces right sides together, and the lining right sides together.
Sew from the top of one side, all the way around to the other side, using a 1/4" seam allowance.
Iron both pieces, then turn the lining right side out, and iron again.
Pinch loop in half, and baste to the top of the lining, leaving a 1/2" tail.
Place lining inside main body, right sides together.
Stitch around the top, leaving a 1" hole for turning, making sure to catch the loop in the stitching.
Pull the stocking through the hole, and iron. Top stitch around the stocking then push the lining inside the body. Top stitch the hole closed.
And done!
